Autopsy Kit is a trinket added in The Reheated Update.

Effects

• Coins dropped from destroying Shopkeepers will be replaced with Red Hearts or Bone Hearts.
  • The chance of getting higher-quality hearts increases with the quality of coins replaced.

Notes

• The technical chances for a type of heart based on the type of coin that would have spawned is as follows:
  • Penny: 60% chance for Half Red Heart, 35% chance for a Full Red Heart, 5% chance for a Bone Heart.
  • Double Penny: 90% chance for a Full Red Heart, 10% chance for a Bone Heart.
  • Nickel: 75% chance for a Full Red Heart, 25% chance for a Bone Heart.
  • Sticky Nickel: 40% chance for Half Red Heart, 40% chance for a Full Red Heart, 20% chance for a Bone Heart.
  • Dime, Lucky Penny and Golden Penny: 100% chance for a Bone Heart.
  • All other Coin types: 50% chance for a Half Red Heart, 35% chance for a Full Red Heart, 15% chance for a Bone Heart.
• In practice, the typical hearts gained from a regular Shopkeeper will be 2 Red Hearts with a very low chance for Bone Hearts — Special Shopkeepers will spawn only 1 heart, but will have an approximately 25% chance to be a Bone Heart, will be very unlikely to spawn a Half Red Heart, and will generally be more likely to spawn a heart compared to regular Shopkeepers.

Interactions

• Massive Amethyst: Amethyst clusters, despite replacing Shopkeepers, will not spawn hearts when destroyed.
• Humbleing Bundle: With a 50% chance to turn all Pennies into Double Pennies, this indirectly increases the quality of hearts spawned from regular Shopkeepers.
• Trinket Multipliers: Improves the chances for Bone Hearts in the drop calculation, which scales with multipliers.
  • For example, with a multiplier of 2, Penny drops will now have an ~18% chance to become a Bone Heart, while the chance for Half Red Hearts is reduced to ~52%, and Full Red Hearts are reduced to ~30%.
• Azurite Spindown: Using Azurite Spindown on Autopsy Kit rerolls it into IOU.

Trivia

• Autopsy Kit is based off of one of Repentance developer _Kilburn's original characters, an artist and serial killer that uses the corpses of people within her works of art, brandishing a similar-looking autopsy kit like it is a brush palette set.
